Dentistry with No Discomfort

Scientists have reported a new discovery that may eventually replace the needles used to give local anesthetic to dental patients.  In the journal, Molecular Pharaceutics, Dr. William Frey and his colleagues wrote that a way had been discovered to administer a common anesthetic through a nasal spray.

It seems that when lidocaine is administered to the nose as nose drops or spray it travels through the main nerve of the face and collects in high concentrations in the teeth, jaw and other parts of the mouth.  Researchers feel that this approach could someday provide an effective method for treating dental pain and anxiety.

Until the day comes that nasal sprays replace the standard method for delivering dental anesthesia there are many other ways to calm your anxiety and make your dental visit a more pleasant experience.  Dr. Mark Levy can discuss your fears and offer alternatives ranging from nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to sedation dentistry.  Your comfort and well-being are our highest priority.
