Sleep Apnea Causes Pennsylvania Representatives Death

Untreated sleep apnea linked to death. Treat OSA using oral appliance therapy in Columbus, Ohio.

Pennsylvania State Representative Robert Donatucci was just re-elected to his 16th term in the House.  Sadly, the popular politician died in his sleep earlier this week.  According to his brother, Mr.  Donatucci’s death was related to his sleep apnea.  While he was being treated for his condition he found the mask uncomfortable.  His brother also said he had no history of heart problems.

Estimates of patients who cannot tolerate CPAP therapy to treat their obstructive sleep apnea range from 25% to 60%.  Among patients who utilize their CPAP machines most do not use the machine every night or use the machine for only a few hours each night.  Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition and should not be left untreated.

Oral appliance therapy is a safe, effective and non-invasive method of treating mild to moderate sleep apnea and is also used to treat patients with more severe apnea that are CPAP intolerant.  Oral appliance therapy uses a specially designed, custom fitted mouthpiece to gently move the lower jaw forward which allows the airway to remain open during sleep.  These appliances are available only from specially trained sleep medicine dentists.
